The fast bowler Sompal Kami, a key member of the Nepali cricket team, will be unable to play against Netherlands in the ICC Cricket World Cup One Day tournament. The team must win in the Super Six stage to advance, but Sompal will be missing.
He was injured during the match against Zimbabwe last Sunday, which caused him to miss games against the United States and West Indies. In the 34th over against Zimbabwe, a delivery from Zimbabwean batsman Sun Williams struck Sompal’s right big toe as he tried to stop the shot, resulting in swelling. According to a Nepali team source, the injury required surgery on his big toe. Consequently, stitches were applied to the toe, and a doctor has advised him to rest for one week. He may need to have the stitches removed after the upcoming Sunday, allowing him to play against the Netherlands.
If Nepal reaches the Super Six, Sompal will be fit. Even if Nepal is eliminated in the group stage, the team will still play two matches for positions six through ten. In either the two playoff games or the three Super Six matches, Sompal’s fitness is deemed likely. Nepal lost the first game to Zimbabwe by eight wickets and the third to West Indies by 101 runs. They defeated the United States by six wickets. Meanwhile, the Netherlands defeated Zimbabwe by six wickets and beat the United States by five wickets. Nepal must win today to reach the Super Six, after which the Netherlands will face the West Indies in the final match.
